If your child has any specific needs, feel free to contact Rosey directly on Facebook messenger at ‘Kids can craft’ to discuss.
In these relaxed, small group sessions, children can explore their creativity in a nurturing, supportive environment of 6 children maximum. In each workshop, the theme and techniques will be modelled and the children will be guided in creating their own work inspired by the theme if they so wish. Children are also welcome to explore their own ideas, with the freedom to be creative in their own ways if they choose. There will also be ‘break out’ activities available, such as mindful colouring and doodling activities, for children to take breaks when needed. And of course- plenty of squash and biscuits provided! (Please let us know of any allergies).
In these sessions we will be using a variety of media including acrylic paints, watercolours, oil pastels, chalk pastels and paint pens. Please note the paint can stain clothing. It will get messy so please send children in old clothes or with an apron. We will be experimenting with techniques such as watercolour wash, oil pastel resist, printing (with polystrerene tiles), masking tape resist, carbon paper tracing, collage and more! For more information please see session outlines below…
Session 1: Wednesday 25th February 11am-1pm Cosy hot chocolate in mixed media / printing with polystyrene tiles We will create vibrant patterned pieces using oil pastels and a watercolour wash. Choose from A3 or A4 size. Children may choose to use other media such as paint pens to add to their patterns. If they wish to create an abstract design, this would work really well here too. We will also be having a go at some printmaking: making impressions on polystyrene tiles (eg. by using a sharp pencil or biro nib) rolling acrylic paint on top and then pressing down with paper to transfer the image!
Session 2: Wednesday 4th March 11am-1pm Birch trees with a watercolour wash To make the birch trees we will start by masking off some tree shapes. Then we will use a vibrant watercolour wash with added salt for texture to make a colourful sky background. To make the texture on the tree trunks I will show the children how to scrape paint over them. There will be lots of opportunities to practise paint scraping techniques. The children may like to make some experimental abstract pieces too!
Session 3: Wednesday 11th March 11am-1pm Tropical bird painted collage In this session we will be using lots of different techniques to create a large tropical bird piece (birds can be swapped to other creatures eg. lizards if desired!) Firstly, we will create green leafy backgrounds, I will model some painting and printing techniques to fill the page. The we will collage birds, leaves and flowers onto the piece. If the children like, they can also try out carbon paper for tracing designs. This is always lots of fun to experiment with!
